About this place
Ichijo Falls is a waterfall on the Ichijodani River, a tributary of the Asuwa River, in Jokyoji, Fukui, Fukui Prefecture. According to tradition, in 717 (Yoro 1) Taicho founded Takisuizan Jokyoji upstream of the falls and enshrined Hakusan Daigongen. The Nitenki, compiled in 1776 (Anei 5) by Toyoda Kagehide of the Kumamoto domain, records that Sasaki Kojiro was born in Jokyoji Village, Usaka-sho, Echizen Province (now Jokyoji-cho, Fukui, Fukui Prefecture), and that he is said to have mastered his secret sword technique Tsubame-gaeshi (Swallow Counter) at these falls.
