About this place

Rokuzan Art Museum is an art museum in Hotaka, Azumino, Nagano Prefecture. It is a member facility of the Azumino Art Line. It is the private museum of the modern sculptor Ogiwara Rokuzan (art name; real name Morie). Rokuzan was from Higashihotaka Village (within the former Hotaka Town, now Hotaka, Azumino). The museum opened in April 1958 with donations from about 300,000 people, starting with elementary and junior high school students in Nagano Prefecture, for the purpose of collecting, preserving and exhibiting his works and materials. It also exhibits works by artists closely connected with Rokuzan, such as Takamura Kotaro, Tobari Kogan and Nakahara Teijiro.
