About this place
Shuonan is a temple of the Rinzai school, Daitokuji branch, in Kyotanabe, Kyoto Prefecture. Its mountain name is Reizuizan. The principal image is Shakyamuni Nyorai. It is also called Ikkyuji or "Takigi no Ikkyuji." Besides its dry-landscape rock garden and the wooden statue of Ikkyu Sojun, it is famous for "Ikkyuji natto," a type of natto. Its predecessor was Myoshoji, opened by Nanpo Jomyo (Daio Kokushi) in the Shoo era (1288-1293).
