About this place
Kojima Torajiro (April 3, 1881 (Meiji 14) - March 8, 1929 (Showa 4)) was a Japanese Western-style painter. He was born the second son of Kojima Yakichi and Yuki in Shimohara Village, Kawakami District, Okayama Prefecture (now Shimohara, Nariwacho, Takahashi). His birth family was called "Hashimotoya" and ran an inn and catering business. In 1901 (Meiji 34) he went to Tokyo to study painting. In 1902 (Meiji 35) he entered the special course in Western painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts). He studied under Kuroda Seiki, Fujishima Takeji and others.
