Overview
Taught by Kyoto carvers who came to rebuild the temple; the street is still lined with workshops using 200 kinds of chisel.
About this place
Inami carving is a wood-carving craft produced mainly in the Inami district (formerly Inami Town) of Nanto, Toyama Prefecture. The origin of Inami carving is closely linked to the fact that Inami Betsuin Zuisenji, built in 1390 (1st year of Meitoku), burned down many times and was each time rebuilt by the shrine carpenters of Inami.
