About this place
Oboke is a gorge (antecedent valley) in the middle reaches of the Yoshino River. Oboke, together with Koboke, is one of the V-shaped valleys making up the Natural Monument and Place of Scenic Beauty "Oboke-Koboke." It is located about 6 km downstream from the Kochi Prefecture border in the southwest of Miyoshi, Tokushima Prefecture. It is also sometimes called Oboke Gorge. The geology of this area belongs to the Sanbagawa Belt. Sanbagawa metamorphic rocks are generally called "Sanbagawa stone" (called "Awa no Aoishi" in Tokushima Prefecture), and Oboke-Koboke is a leading exposure of it.
