About this place
Gero Onsen is a hot spring in Gero, Gifu Prefecture (formerly Hida Province, Mashita District, Gifu Prefecture). In the Muromachi period, Banri Shukyu called it one of the 'three famous springs' with Arima Onsen and Kusatsu Onsen, and in the Edo period Hayashi Razan also described these three hot springs as 'the three famous springs under heaven' (Japan's Three Famous Springs) (though at the time it was written Yushima, not Gero). Alkaline simple spring, source temperature 84 degrees Inns and hotels stand in numbers centred on the area along the Hida River (Mashita River) from Gero Station.
