Overview
The funerary temple of the Matsudaira, lords of the Fukui domain. On the Senjojiki behind it stand the great stone mausolea of the lord's family.
About this place
Daianji is a Rinzai-sect Myoshinji-branch temple in Tanotanicho, Fukui, Fukui. Its mountain name is Banshozan, and its formal temple name is Daianzenji. It was founded in 1658 (1st year of Manji) by Matsudaira Mitsumichi, the fourth lord of the Fukui Domain, with Taigu Sochiku as founding priest, as the permanent family temple of the Echizen Matsudaira family. The precinct is the former site of Ryuozan Tayaji, which burned down in 1574 (2nd year of Tensho). It is Temple No. 10 of the Hokuriku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
