About this place
Jogu Shrine is a shrine in Jogu, Tsuruga, Fukui. It is a claimant to Engishiki-listed status and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. Its shrine crests are the "sixteen-petal double chrysanthemum", the "tomoe" and the "paulownia". In ancient times it was the inner shrine and a subsidiary shrine of Kehi Jingu (ichinomiya of Echizen Province). Jogu Shrine was anciently also called "Tsune no Miya", "Tsune no Miya Gozen" and "Tsune no Miya Daigongen". This "Tsune no Miya" is said to come from the oracle of Empress Jingu, "How pleasant, to dwell always in a palace where the waves and winds are calm".
