About this place
Odate Magewappa is bentwood ware produced in Odate, Akita Prefecture. It is a traditional craft handed down from the Edo period and is designated a Traditional Craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. It is made and sold by each company belonging to the Odate Magewappa Cooperative Association. It is one of the representative specialities of Akita Prefecture, sung of in the lyrics of Akita Ondo as an Akita speciality, and is mainly used for rice tubs and lunch boxes.
