About this place
The Inukko Festival is a folk event and festival held every year in February in Yuzawa, Akita Prefecture. It is a Koshogatsu (Little New Year) folk event with its origins in the Edo period, about 400 years ago, and today is held on the second Saturday of February and the following day. Auspicious figures such as puppies and cranes and turtles made of rice flour are displayed at doorways of houses to ward off theft, and a snow shrine hall and 'inukko' snow figures are made of snow.
