About this place
Mikuni Shrine is a shrine in Sakai, Fukui Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is regarded as the successor of the Engishiki-listed shrine "Mikuni Shrine, Sakai District, Echizen Province," but in fact there appears to be no continuity of worship. It enshrines Oyamakui no Mikoto (Sanno Gongen) and Emperor Keitai, and is called "Osan no San (Osanno-san)" locally. Its annual festival, the Mikuni Festival, is designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Fukui Prefecture and is counted as one of the Three Great Festivals of Hokuriku.
