Overview
Murasaki Shikibu spent a year here with her father; the park rebuilds a Heian villa garden around that fact.
About this place
Murasaki Shikibu Park is a park in Higashisenpukucho, Echizen, Fukui Prefecture. It is a park with a shinden-style garden, built in memory of Murasaki Shikibu, the author of The Tale of Genji. Its name comes from the fact that Murasaki Shikibu stayed in this area with her father Fujiwara no Tametoki. Visitors can freely see the golden statue of Murasaki Shikibu made by Entsuba Katsuzo, recipient of the Order of Culture, and the all-cypress fishing pavilion. Across the road to the west stands the Murasaki Yukari no Yakata.
