About this place
Shakudani stone is a dacite pumice lapilli tuff, a stone quarried on Mount Asuwa in Fukui, Fukui Prefecture. In the narrow sense it is stone quarried in the so-called Shakudani district at the northwest foot of Mount Asuwa. In general it means stone quarried from the Shakudani Formation, which consists of dacite pumice lapilli tuff. SiO2 content is 63 to 77%, Al2O3 content 11 to 22%. The mineral composition is quartz, albite, anorthite, orthoclase, hematite, calcite, chlorite and others.
