About this place
The Former Ito Denemon Residence is a traditional building in Kobukuro, Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture. It was built as his main residence by Ito Denemon, a coal mine operator, from the middle of the Taisho era to the early Showa period. The gate was relocated from the Shakudo Goten in Tenjin, Fukuoka. The garden is designated a Place of Scenic Beauty of Japan as the "Former Ito Denemon Garden" and is open to the public along with the building. The buildings (seven, including the main house) were designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan in 2020.
