About this place
The Tachibana Family Garden is the residence and garden of the Tachibana family, former lords of the Yanagawa domain, in Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture. It began in 1738 (Genbun 3) in the Edo period, when Tachibana Sadayoshi, the fifth lord of the Yanagawa domain, built a villa for the lord's family at this place, then called Ohanabatake, at the southwest corner of Yanagawa Castle. In the Meiji era the Tachibana family became counts, and the buildings and gardens were newly prepared; in 1910 the Tachibana Count's residence, in a new style with Western-style and Japanese-style buildings standing side by side, was completed, and it forms the main buildings of the present Tachibana Family Garden.
