A single bamboo strip wound as a spiral for the frame, and the picture painted from inside so it shows when lit.
About this place
Yame chochin are paper lanterns born and made in Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. In the past they were called Fukushima lanterns because they originated in Fukushima-machi, Yame District. Yame chochin are mainly Bon lanterns and come in types such as Sumiyoshi lanterns, Ouchi andon, Gotenmaru (Goten-maru), Hakata-cho and gate lanterns. The spiral winding of a single rib, the structure of most lanterns today, originated with Yame chochin.
