About this place
Kawaramachi is the name of the street south of Nagaragawa Bridge in Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, and the common name for the whole area around it. This street, extending south from the cormorant-fishing viewing boat office at the foot of Nagaragawa Bridge, crosses the Minatomachi, Tamaicho and Motohamacho areas and continues to Zaimokucho. Since the Edo period this area was an important port town on the Nagara River, where timber and Mino washi from Okumino were landed in large quantities, and it prospered as a wholesale district handling them.
