About this place
Kusakabe Mingeikan is a museum in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. It is a facility in which part of the home (Kusakabe family residence) was renovated by Kusakabe Reiichi, the 11th head of the Kusakabe family, in sympathy with the Mingei movement advocated by Yanagi Muneyoshi, and is one of the folk craft museums across the country. It opened in 1966 (Showa 41). The Kusakabe family were merchants to the magistrate's office (Hida Gundai) of Hida Province, which was a shogunate territory. The Kusakabe family residence consists of the main house (built in 1879 (Meiji 12)) and two storehouses, with Kawajiri Jisuke as master carpenter.
