About this place
The Koga Historical Museum is a museum in Koga, Ibaraki Prefecture. It opened on 3 November 1990 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the city. Its collection centres on Koga domain materials, including materials related to Sekisen Takami and medical history materials related to the Kawaguchi family. It stands on the site of the Suwa-kuruwa (outer fortification) of Koga Castle. Designed by the architect Keiji Yoshida, it won the 1992 Architectural Institute of Japan Prize (Work Prize) and the 1996 Public Architecture Award (Minister of Construction's Award, Cultural Facilities category).
