About this place
Ushiku Chateau is a winery in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture. The owner is Oenon Holdings Co., Ltd. Until 2017 it was called Chateau Kamiya. It was founded in 1903 by Denbei Kamiya under the name Ushiku Brewery. It is Japan's first full-scale winery, adopting French grape varieties and the Bordeaux method of making fine wines. In June 2008, three buildings, the former office, the former fermentation room and the former storehouse, were designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
