About this place
Amami Park is a tourism base facility for the Amami Islands in Amami, Kagoshima Prefecture. It opened on September 30, 2001, on the site of the former Amami Airport. The establisher is Kagoshima Prefecture. Visitor numbers reached 2 million in January 2016. The park director is Miyazaki Midori, a former NHK announcer (also serving as director of the Tanaka Isson Memorial Museum). The park is divided into "Amami no Sato" and the "Tanaka Isson Memorial Museum." Entry into the park is free, and tickets are bought to view the paid zones.
