About this place
Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall is a historic building in the Kannai district of Naka Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is an Important Cultural Property of Japan. As a project commemorating the 50th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port in 1909 (Meiji 42), it was planned in 1913 (Taisho 2), construction began the following year, and it was completed in 1917 (Taisho 6). It was completely burned in the Great Kanto Earthquake, but was rebuilt in 1927 (Showa 2) with the early architecture restored.
