About this place
Daikanbo is a mountain in Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture. Its elevation is 935.9 m. It is the highest peak of the northern outer rim of Aso, and from it the Aso caldera and its caldera walls, the Five Peaks of Aso (the central cones), and the Kuju mountains can all be seen. It is known as one of the most popular viewpoints in the Aso area and attracts many tourists. The name "Daikanbo" was given in May 1922 (Taisho 11) by Tokutomi Soho, a Meiji-era literary figure and journalist from Kumamoto Prefecture.
