Masterpieces fired onto ceramic panels and set outdoors; Ando's ramps make you look down on some and up at others.
About this place
Kyoto Prefectural Garden of Fine Art is an outdoor museum in Shimogamo, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, displaying famous paintings of past and present transferred onto ceramic plates. Ceramic plate paintings are made by transferring onto ceramic plates by photoengraving technology from positive film photographed from the original painting, and firing them. By their nature they do not discolor or corrode, so they can be preserved for a long time even outdoors. Each painting is made up of multiple ceramic plates. It is the first art exhibition facility of this kind in the world.
