Paste is drawn along every outline to keep the colours apart, leaving the fine white line that identifies the technique.
About this place
Kyo-Yuzen is one of the traditional crafts of Kyoto, an ancient dyeing technique brought to perfection by the fan painter Miyazaki Yuzensai. Cloth was once bleached in the flow of the Kamo River to bring out vivid colors, but recently this has moved to the suburbs. It is also simply called "Yuzen-zome." Genuine hand-painted Yuzen takes as many as 26 steps to complete and is very labor-intensive, so stencil dyeing and printing are now mainstream. There are techniques such as the following. "Aobana" extracted from the petals of the dayflower
