About this place
Rokkaen is a Place of Scenic Beauty at 663-5 Takaba, Kuwana, Kuwana, Mie Prefecture. It is the general name for the former residence of the 2nd Moroto Seiroku (East Moroto Residence). It is a National Important Cultural Property and Place of Scenic Beauty. It has buildings including a Western-style house with a connected Japanese-style house and several storehouses, and a pond-strolling Japanese garden, with a total area of over 18,000 square meters. It was started in 1911 (Meiji 44) as the new home of the businessman 2nd Moroto Seiroku, designed by Josiah Conder, and completed in 1913 (Taisho 2).
