Overview
Villages and fields ranked on river terraces - the steps of the terrain become the steps of land use.
About this place
The Ina Valley is a basin in southern Nagano Prefecture extending north-south along the Tenryu River. Topographically it may seem to have been formed by the erosion of the Tenryu River, but in fact it was shaped more by fault activity in the surrounding area than by erosion. The Ina Valley is sometimes treated as another name for the Ina Basin. It is also called Inadaira and is one of the "four plains" (yotsu no taira) appearing in the Nagano Prefectural song "Shinano no Kuni." In the past it was also written with another character for Ina.
