Alternating arches of stone and glass drop bands of light and dark - organic architecture in the Wright lineage.
About this place
The Stone Church and Kanzo Uchimura Memorial Hall is a church and memorial hall in Karuizawa, Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture. It is next to the Hotel Bleston Court. Built to honour Kanzo Uchimura, a Christian leader of the Meiji and Taisho eras, it has a chapel above ground and the Kanzo Uchimura Memorial Hall below. Its distinctive form of overlapping stone and glass arches is the work of the American architect Kendrick Kellogg. The stone is said to symbolise man, and the glass woman.
