About this place
The Obasute terraced rice fields are in Hachiman, Chikuma, Nagano Prefecture, in Japan's Chubu region (Hachiman Village, Sarashina District, in 1889, the Meiji 22 era; in the Edo period, the area around Hachiman Village, Sarashina District, Shinano Province, which under the shogunate-domain system was Hachiman Village in the Choraku-ji domain of Shinshu and in the Matsushiro domain of Shinshu). They have long been renowned as a famous spot for the "moon in every paddy" (tagoto no tsuki). They are also called the Obasute terraced fields.
