About this place
Imaicho is a district in the central part of Kashihara, Nara Prefecture, consisting of 1-chome to 4-chome. Originating as a temple town (jinai-machi) of the Sengoku period, it has about 500 traditional buildings out of a total of just under 1,500 buildings, the most of any district in Japan, and has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. It also has nine Important Cultural Properties of Japan, three prefecturally designated cultural properties and five city-designated cultural properties, and was certified as a Japan Heritage site on 28 April 2017.
