Overview
Paintings that show the shrine and its mountain as a Buddhist paradise - gods and Buddhas held in one image.
About this place
Kasuga mandala are Shinto mandala paintings depicting Kasuga Taisha and related matters, made from the end of the Heian period through the Edo period. Influenced by the Fujiwara clan's veneration of its tutelary Kasuga Taisha and by Shinto-Buddhist syncretism, they were produced especially actively in the medieval period (Kamakura and Muromachi periods).
