Overview
Home of the Yagyu swordsmen, with a boulder split clean in two that legend says was cut by a blade.
About this place
The Yagyu Domain governed Yagyu-go (now the Yagyu district of Nara) in Soekami District, Yamato Province. It was a small domain with an assessed yield of about 10,000 koku, but the lord's family, the Yagyu family (Edo Yagyu family), held weight in the shogunate cabinet for generations as sword instructors to the shogun's house. The domain office was Yagyu Jinya. After the death of the domain founder Munenori, his holding of 12,500 koku was divided: 8,300 koku to the famous eldest son Yagyu Mitsuyoshi (Jubei), 4,000 koku to the third son Yagyu Munefuyu, and 200 koku to the fourth son Rokumaru (Retsudo Gisen), so the Yagyu family went from daimyo to hatamoto.
