About this place
Matsunoyama Onsen is a hot spring in Matsunoyama, Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture. It lies in one of Japan's leading heavy snowfall regions, where snow depth can exceed 4 m. Sodium-calcium chloride spring (weakly alkaline) Its boric acid content is the highest in Japan, at 349.5 mg per liter. It is also rich in metasilicic acid. The volume of the source decreased due to the 2011 Northern Nagano earthquake, and new drilling is also being carried out. Although it is a mountain hot spring, its salt concentration is high, and salt was also collected during the Pacific War.
