About this place
Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art MonET is a contemporary art museum in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture. It is one of the base facilities of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, the Art Festival of the Earth. It was planned as a place where people, goods and information from the whole region intersect, inspired by the seasonal market (sekki-ichi) from which Tokamachi takes its name. The architecture was designed by Hara Hiroshi + Atelier Phi Architectural Research Institute, who also worked on Kyoto Station and the Sapporo Dome.
