Overview
An island museum where exile brought court culture; its Noh masks and Buddhist images still show it.
About this place
Sado Museum is a museum in Hachiman, Sado, Niigata Prefecture. It opened in September 1957 (Showa 32) next to Hachimankan with a donation from Niigata Kotsu. It was operated by a foundation, but since 2014 (Heisei 26) it has been a municipal museum. In addition to exhibits of Sado's natural history, archaeology, history and folklore, there are exhibits related to the Sado gold and silver mines. Outdoors there is also a rock garden and an exhibit of a relocated thatched-roof old farmhouse.
