About this place
The Shirone Giant Kite Battle is a kite battle held every year in early June in Shirone (Shirone district) and Nishishirone (Mikata district), Minami Ward, Niigata, Niigata Prefecture. The two districts fly giant kites from both banks across the Nakanokuchi River, a branch of the Shinano River, entangle them, and pull until a kite's rope breaks to decide the winner, in a spirited festival.
