About this place
Shono Shounsai (September 10, 1904 (Meiji 37) - January 10, 1974 (Showa 49)) was a bamboo craft artist. A Living National Treasure. His real name was Akihei. He was born in 1904 (Meiji 37) in Uchinari, Ishikigawa Village, Oita District, Oita Prefecture (now Beppu). After graduating from Ishiki Ordinary Higher Elementary School, in 1923 (Taisho 12), at 19, he studied bamboo craft under Sato Chikuyusai.
