A public bathhouse under a temple-like gable, still offering the sand bath in which bathers are buried to the neck.
About this place
Takegawara Onsen is a municipal public hot spring in Motomachi, Beppu, Oita Prefecture. The present building was completed in 1938 (Showa 13), was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on June 9, 2004 (Heisei 16), and was certified as a Modernization Industrial Heritage on February 6, 2009 (Heisei 21). It is a magnificent, large-scale two-story wooden building with a karahafu gable roof on the front combined with hip-and-gable and hipped roofs and pent roofs, giving a complex appearance.
