A copper and red-ochre town where every house is painted in the pigment it made, under matching red tiles.
About this place
Fukiya is a district in Nariwa, Takahashi, Okayama Prefecture. Occupations and craftsmen that smelt and cast metal, and their workshops, were called fukiya. Known for its red townscape of Sekishu roof tiles and bengara plaster walls, 6.4 hectares retaining a historic townscape have been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. This entry also covers Fukiya-cho, Kawakami District, which once existed in the area, and Fukiya Village, the name before the town system.
