About this place
Hirokane-tei is a historic building in Takahashi, Okayama Prefecture. It is one of the preserved buildings of Fukiya Furusato Village, located about 3 kilometers south of central Fukiya. It is a huge residence built by Motoharu, the second head of the Hirokane family, village headmen of Onoro, who made a huge fortune running the Koizumi copper mine and the manufacture of rohaa (green vitriol, iron sulfate, the raw material of bengara) in the late Edo period. It is also known as a filming location for films such as the 1977 Shochiku film Yatsuhaka-mura (also used again in the 1996 film Yatsuhaka-mura).
