About this place
Sakushu Kasuri is kasuri that has been made in Tomata District and Kume District of Mimasaka Province (around Tsuyama, Okayama Prefecture). In the Tsuyama region of Sakushu (Mimasaka Province), centered on Shitorimura, Kume District (now Kuwakami and Kuwashimo, Tsuyama), Nishigori (now Misaki, Kume District), Kuwahara, Kamocho, Tomata District (now Kuwahara, Kamocho, Tsuyama) and Ayabe, Tsuyama, high-grade silk fabric had long been woven, but cotton cultivation began in the early 17th century and the two came to be woven in parallel.
