About this place
Osaka Gas Building is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property building along Midosuji in Semba, Chuo Ward, Osaka. Commonly called "Osaka Gas Building" or "Gas Building." It is the head office of Osaka Gas. Designed by Yasui Takeo and completed in 1933 (Showa 8). It was said to be the most modern building of its day; at completion, besides offices, it had a gas appliance showroom, a lecture hall, a beauty salon, a barber shop, a gas cooking class room, a dining hall and more, open to the public (the lecture hall was closed in 1965).
