About this place
Mengyo Kaikan is a Renaissance-style historic building in Semba, Chuo Ward, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture. It stands facing Sankyubashi-suji. It was designated a National Important Cultural Property on December 25, 2003, and in 2007 it was certified as a Modernization Industrial Heritage. It was built in December 1931 as a facility of the Japan Cotton Industry Club, based on 1 million yen given by the family of Oka Tsuneo, managing director of Toyobo, and 500,000 yen in donations from related industries, a total of 1.5 million yen (as construction funds, equivalent to about 1 billion yen today (as of 2021)).
