About this place
Keitakuen is a Japanese garden in Tennoji Park in Tennoji Ward, Osaka. It was named by Prince Fushimi-no-miya Sadanaru. It is a vast garden in the strolling style (rinsen kaiyu-shiki) viewed by walking among the trees around a pond with three islands, large and small, gathering famous stones and trees from across the country. It was originally the garden of the Sumitomo family's Chausuyama main residence, completed in 1918 (Taisho 7). Since landscaping began in 1908 (Meiji 41), designed by Kizu Itsusai (Kizu Sosen) and laid out by Ogawa Jihei, it took 10 years to complete.
