About this place
Kumagaya-zome is the general name for dyeing techniques practiced in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture. It is designated a traditional handicraft of Saitama Prefecture. Kumagaya-zome consists of three techniques, yuzen, komon and komon, and there is no single dyeing technique called Kumagaya-zome. The name came into use after the war at exhibitions and trade fairs, and was adopted when the Kumagaya City Textile Printing Promotion Cooperative was established in 1962 (Showa 37).
