A kilometre and a half of pines along the old Nikko highway, walked by Basho and now a Place of Scenic Beauty.
About this place
Soka Matsubara is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty in Soka, Saitama Prefecture. It is an avenue of black pines running about 1.5 km along the Ayase River, from near Soka Rokuchome Bridge on the old Nikko Kaido to the southern end of Asahicho 1-chome. It is also called Senbon Matsubara. A stone-paved promenade (Soka City Road No. 9001) runs along the pine avenue, and where it crosses roads, overpass bridges such as Momoyo Bridge and Yatate Bridge have been built so that the promenade is continuous. Saitama Prefectural Route 49 Adachi-Koshigaya Line runs parallel just west of the pine avenue.
