About this place
Genkyuen is a former daimyo garden in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture. Together with the area of the National Special Historic Site "Hikone Castle Ruins" and the adjoining Rakurakuen, it is designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty as "Genkyu Rakurakuen." On April 24, 2015 (Heisei 27), it was certified as Japan Heritage as a component cultural property of "Lake Biwa and Its Waterside Landscape - Water Heritage of Prayer and Life." Genkyu Rakurakuen consists of "Genkyuen" and "Rakurakuen," which differ in character.
