About this place
Hachimanbori is a waterway in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture. Built as a canal in 1585 (Tensho 13) during the Toyotomi regime, the castle town of Hachimanyama Castle developed as a commercial city through water transport on the Hachimanbori, connected to Lake Biwa via Nishinoko, and produced the Omi merchants. It is 4.75 km long and about 15 metres wide. It escaped the danger of being filled in and is still preserved, forming a beautiful landscape together with the old town and serving as a place of relaxation for citizens and a tourist spot.
