About this place
Harie Ward is a district in Takashima, Shiga Prefecture. In administrative terms it corresponds to Harie, Shin-Asahi-cho, Takashima. It was formerly Harie in Shin-Asahi-cho, Takashima District, Harie in Aiba Village, Takashima District, and even earlier Harie Village in the same district. There exists the "kabata culture," a living environment that makes use of abundant subsurface water welling up from the Ado River system. The spring water (Harie's shozu) has been selected as one of the Environment Ministry's "100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters of Heisei," and together with the neighbouring Shimofuri district it has been selected as an Important Cultural Landscape of Japan.
